My name is Andrew Zoppos and I was born in Cyprus, that small island in the eastern region of the Mediterranean Sea

As a youngster I was very much involved into athletic sports (long jump, triple jump, high jump, four hundred meters) and I loved to play football, therefore I classified myself as a person that knew a lot about sport injuries on the field.

I migrated to Australia in November 1968, with a small suitcase, a few clothes and a lot of dreams. Not having any knowledge of the English language, made this new life experience very difficult.

I was drawn towards therapies and methods to bring relief for human sufferance, so I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture and even acquired the fundamentals of Physiotherapy.

In 1983, I was involved in a car accident and ended up in the hospital with a fractured sternum and severe whiplash. Eight hours later I was released from hospital with a neck collar and a few painkillers.

Doctors told me that there was nothing they could do for me, so for the next five years, I was in a neck collar with continuous headaches, migraines, stiff necks and many sleepless nights.

A very close friend of mine, who is an orthopedic surgeon, believed that the answer to my problem was an operation. My prompt response was that an operation would be the last choice for me. I promised him that I would find someone to help me with my problem!

So my quest began! I was looking for a technique to help me overcome my injuries. I tried everything from orthodox medicine to alternative and complementary, osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment. I started studying these techniques as well, to find out how they all worked.

After all these studies and countless treatments I was still without any long-term relief or cure to my neck injury. There was no distance that I wouldn’t travel to find some relief. I traveled many times, sometimes hundred of miles away from home and tried many different hocus-pocus modalities.

I was just out of luck; after 5 years from the accident, the operation was starting to look like an option!

It wasn’t until 1988 when a client of mine suggested that I should go and see a Bowen therapist. My response was: “Bowen? What’s that?” I had never heard of this therapy before, even after all the research that I had done! Without any hesitation I rang and made an appointment for the next day. I was very keen on getting there and finding out more about this technique, especially since this client told me its core principle “It’s a technique that resets the body to heal itself." This statement stayed with me till this day.

That was the best news I had heard in a very long time. All this time I have been going to practitioners who were forcing my body to do what they wanted, but for the first time, I received a logical solution and the more I thought about it, the better it sounded. “Reset the body to heal itself !!!!!”

When I got to my first appointment, I asked the therapist how the treatment worked. He answered to me that he didn't know how exactly, but for the last six months, all the patients he has been treated had great improvement. That was good enough for me. Of course, I was still curious! The therapist also told me that the treatment consists of some very gentle moves, so gentle that they could do no harm.

After he began the treatment, I must admit I thought it was just another hocus pocus attempt. It was a very strange procedure! He would touch me couple of times, then walk out of the room for two to three minutes and then come back and do the same. Then, 35 minutes later, he said to me, “That’s all for now, I will see you in 7 days!” I will admit, I wasn’t very keen on going back. It seemed so effortless!

The next 3 to 4 days I was feeling very strange, but to my surprise, my neck felt a little easier and on the fifth day even better. So on the seventh day I kept my appointment and after three more treatments I was able to throw the collar away and I haven’t wore it since.

Finally, after five years of searching, I found a technique that really worked for me!

A short while later, I rang the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia and enrolled into the next seminar.
After so many years of practicing this technique, I came to understand the theory of Tom Bowen. I have, at some stages, operated two clinics and there were times that I would treat as many as 40 people in one day, for many different problems.

A good number of my clients were athletes and footballers, thanks to my boys, but I was always amazed of the results in many chronic conditions, physiological, organic and even emotional and psychological problems.

In 1995 when I was authorized to teach this technique for Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia, it never crossed my mind that I will be one of the very few teachers to teach this technique allover the world. I have taught many students in many countries, including Australia, Greece, Germany, Romania, Georgia, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and the Philippines.

I am now more passionate about Bowen than ever before and I take pride for each of my students' wonderful results.
